FAQ
General
PRP treatments stimulate collagen production and cellular regeneration using the platelet-rich portion of your own blood. Internal health, inflammation levels, and plasma quality directly influence the regenerative potential of your PRP.
7 Days Before
• Avoid anti-inflammatory medications unless prescribed.
• Avoid high-dose fish oil, turmeric, ginkgo, or garlic supplements.
• Limit alcohol intake (avoid 48 hours prior).
3–5 Days Before
• Stop retinol, tretinoin, AHAs, BHAs, and strong Vitamin C serums. (*Facial treatments only*)
• Avoid waxing, exfoliation, or treatments that compromise the skin barrier.
24 Hours Before & On The Day
• Minimise caffeine 24 hours prior to treatment.
• Avoid high-fat meals 24–48 hours before treatment. Excess dietary fat can cause lipaemia (cloudy plasma), which may reduce PRP quality.
• Limit alcohol intake (avoid 48 hours prior).
• Stay well hydrated and eat a light, balanced meal (avoid high-fat foods).
• Arrive with clean skin. Inform us of infections, recent filler/toxin, pregnancy, or blood disorders.
What to Expect
It’s normal to experience redness, mild swelling, or pinpoint bruising at the injection sites. Some tenderness may occur, and the skin may feel warm or sensitive for the first 24–48 hours. These effects typically resolve quickly as your skin begins the healing and regeneration process.
Why It Matters
PRP uses the platelet-rich portion of your own blood to stimulate tissue repair, collagen production, and skin
rejuvenation. Tiny injection points temporarily compromise the skin barrier. Following aftercare protects these
sites, supports healing, and maximises your results.
Care Guidelines
• Avoid touching or rubbing the treated area for 12 hours.
• Do not apply makeup until the following day (unless advised otherwise).
• Use a gentle cleanser and cool water only for the first 24 hours.
• Apply a soothing, non-active moisturiser to support healing.
• Stay out of direct sun exposure and use SPF 30+ once able.
• Avoid strenuous exercise, saunas, and hot showers for 24–48 hours.
• Refrain from alcohol and anti-inflammatory medications (unless prescribed) for 24 hours.
Skincare Timeline
• Day 1–3 (AM/PM): Gentle cleanser + soothing moisturiser + SPF (AM only).
• Day 4–7 (AM/PM): Continue gentle care; introduce hydrating serum if tolerated.
• After 7 Days: Slowly reintroduce active ingredients under clinician guidance.
What to Expect
Mild redness, swelling, tenderness or tightness of the scalp is normal for 24–48 hours. Small pinpoint bruising may occur at injection sites. Temporary scalp sensitivity or mild shedding can occur before the stimulation phase begins.
Why It Matters
PRP uses the platelet-rich portion of your own blood to stimulate follicle activity and tissue repair. Tiny injection points are created during treatment, temporarily compromising the scalp barrier. Following aftercare supports healing, reduces irritation, and optimises follicular stimulation.
Care Guidelines
• Avoid touching, scratching, or massaging the scalp for 12 hours.
• Do not wash your hair for at least 12 hours post-treatment.
• Avoid hair products (sprays, gels, dry shampoo) for 24 hours.
• Avoid strenuous exercise, saunas, and hot showers for 24–48 hours.
• Refrain from alcohol and anti-inflammatory medications for 48-72 hours unless prescribed.
• Avoid hair colouring or chemical treatments for at least 5–7 days.
• If using Minoxidil or topical treatments, pause for 24–48 hours unless advised otherwise.
Results & Treatment Timeline
Hair PRP results develop gradually. Reduced shedding may begin within 4–6 weeks. Visible thickening and density improvements typically occur after a series of treatments. A structured treatment plan is recommended, followed by maintenance sessions every 6–12 months.
At our clinic, we exclusively use EMCYTE kits to prepare your platelets m which provide an estimated concentration of 10 billion platelets. Platelets are rich in growth factors, which play a significant role in tissue repair and regneration. With Emcyte, we are able to deliver up to 10 billion platelets. Deliverable platelet count is the most important measure of the power of PRP biologic.
Most people report that the process is relatively painless, with minimal discomfort. However, some people may experience mild discomfort during the procedure depending on the area being treated and individual pain tolerance. We use numbing cream which helps with comfort for the procedure. As we use high medical grade kits, and specialised centrifuges, the numbing cream does not play affect on the platelet count being injected or absorbed into the skin.
At our clinic, we are trained within guidelines to help make sure it is a safe procedure for the client. We ensure we use sterile fields, whilst keeping it a safe and clean environment. These procedures are carried out by trained professionals, conducted in a clinical setting. A consult is compulsory prior to beginning treatment to ensure this procedure is suitable for you.
Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) therapy is generally considered a safe and minimally invasive procedure, as it utilises the patient’s own blood and avoids the use of intravenous drugs or surgery. However, as with any medical procedure, there are potential risks and side effects to be aware of. Some of the most common risks associated with PRP treatment include:
• Infection: As with any injection, there is a risk of infection at the injection site.
• Pain or discomfort: Patients may experience mild to moderate pain, swelling, or discomfort at the injection sites, and skin sensitivity over needled areas.
• Bruising: PRP injections may cause bruising or discoloration at the injection site.
• Allergic reactions: Some patients may have an allergic reaction to the injection if your body is in a heightened immune state, which can cause itching, hives, or difficulty breathing.
• Nerve damage: In rare cases, PRP injections can cause nerve damage or numbness in the surrounding area.
It’s important to discuss any concerns or questions you may have about the risks associated with PRP therapy with your healthcare provider prior to undergoing the treatment. They can provide you with more information about the potential risks and benefits based on your individual health history and circumstances.
We use, depending on patient candidacy, either a very strong TLA (topical local anaesthetic) and/or local anaesthetic via injection to the treatment area/s. Both the injection needle and the microneedling head are extremely fine gauge, and with numbing the pain is minimal, but a pressure sensation can be felt
